Thaworn visits the bombing scene in restive south
BANGKOK 9 October, 2009 (NNT) – Deputy Minister of Interior Thaworn Senneam visited Su-ngai Kolok district in Narathiwat to be briefed on the restless incidents and to give moral support to people and police officers in the restive south.
On 6 October, 2009, Mr. Thaworn Senneam traveled to the scene of the bombing incident in the southernmost province to lend an ear to the recent bombing incident in the town of Narathiwat which resulted in many casualties and injuries.
Other aims of his official visit included investigating, seeking progress and meeting witnesses in Narathiwat to collect first hand information about the violence while giving moral support to locals. In addition, he also gave his thanks to 500 people who consistently provided assistance to the government. To prevent future violence he ordered Mr. Thanon Wetkonkanon, the governor of Narathiwat to use public relations to reach a good understanding with the locals residing in the three southernmost areas.
Regarding the malfunctioned GT-200 bomb detectors, he stated that they only work with static electricity, adding that more officials should be deployed to oversee and prevent any future malfunctions.
Mr. Thaworn vowed that he will visit the restive south more often to reach a good understanding with people and police officials posted there.
