FTI hopes automotive export to reach 510,000
BANGKOK, 12 October 2009 (NNT) – The Automotive Industry Club (AIC), Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) Spokesperson announced the automotive export target is to be 510,000 this year.
Surapong Paisitpattanapong, AIC Spokesperson, said the automotive export activity has decreased by 40% in the past 8 months compared to last years figures. However, it was expected to improve as the figure in August 2009 showed a slight increase, from an average of 30,000 in previous months, to 43,000 according to increasing demand from major trade partners. Hence AIC anticipated this year export to reach 510,000.
Mr. Surapong expressed his concern over the fluctuating exchange rate and the strengthening Thai baht that would interfere with long-term pricing as well as the tariff barrier which obstructed the export activity.
