Private sectors urge Govt to help promote logistics
BANGKOK, 26 October 2009 (NNT) – Private sectors urged the government to help promote logistics, such as the rail development system of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) in order to spur the Thai economy in transportation.
On the topic of the ASEAN Economic Forum 2009, Kiat Sithi-amorn, President of the Thailand Trade Representative Office, stated that an infrastructure fund was established, with 10 Billion USD of support from China and 15 Billion USD from the US. The funds would go to the investment of fundamental infrastructures in the region, and is aimed to contribute to the ASEAN economy.
By the establishment of the infrastructure fund, low-cost logistical systems were likely to emerge for inter-regional transportation. Thailand has to quickly move forward in developing its rail system plan in order to compete globally.
Mr Kiat added that water transportation and software linkage on logistics needed further improvements.
Mr Kiat also admitted that the fiscal budget was a major obstacle in developing the economy of each country, adding that the government should give a hand to financially support Thai businesses.
