MACC Haul Up 17 People In Alleged RM6 Million Corruption Case In Sarawak
KUCHING, Dec 8 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has started investigations into allegations of corruption involving a RM6 million Federal government development project in Sarawak.
MACC Deputy Commissioner Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed however did not disclose details of the actual amount involved, type of development or location of the project.
“I was briefed that investigations were being carried out on only one specific area involving a maximum of RM6 million. Investigations are ongoing,” he told reporters here on Tuesday.
Abu Kassim said the focus of the investigation involved government officers and contractors who were directly involved in the project.
Sarawak MACC director Samsiah Abu Bakar said it was difficult to say when the investigation would be completed because time was needed to compile concrete evidence before charging them.
Samsiah said 17 people, including nine government officers and contractors have been detained for questioning.
