Police in India-controlled Kashmir issues security advisory to separatists
SRINAGAR, India-controlled Kashmir, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) — Police in India-controlled Kashmir has advised the separatist leaders to remain cautious and avoid “unnecessary movement”, a Srinagar-based local daily “Greater Kashmir” Tuesday reported.
Quoting Inspector General of Police Ram Lubhaya, the newspaper said that advisory has come in the interest of separatists.
“We have advised them (separatists) to be cautious and move under proper security cover to prevent any untoward incident. We keep on issuing advisories from time to time,” Lubhaya told the newspaper.
The newspaper also reported that separatist leaders have admitted that police officials have approached them with the advisory.
Currently the police in the region is reviewing the security of separatists on the instructions of the region’s chief minister.
The move followed the deadly attack on the moderate separatist leader, Fazul Haq Qureshi, by unknown assailants Friday evening in Srinagar, the summer capital of India-controlled Kashmir.
Qureshi was critically injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment in a Srinagar hospital.
According to security agencies, Qureshi had declined the security over offered by the local government to him in the past.
