PM presses on with a new round of education reform
BANGKOK, 6 March 2010 (NNT) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced ้his firm intention to press ahead with education reform in the second decade.
At the education reform seminar held by the Education Ministry, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva stated that the government had continuously made progress in education reform plan and some projects had shown clear progress. However some projects still need to be pushed in the second decade reform such as free and quality education, educational fund for better opportunities and curriculum development.
The Prime Minister has clarified the four directions for second decade plan of educational reform which include producing new generations of Thais who keep true to Thai traditions but abreast with modernization, new teachers who are ready for their tasks, new educational institutions as learning centers as well as educational centers, and new and efficient management and decentralization of authority. Implementation along the four directions will be under the supervision of two committees. He also floated an idea of an independent body to drive the reform in the same manner as the Thai Health Promotion Fund.
