Pharmacies to help campaign H1N1 vaccination
BANGKOK, 8 March 2010 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health will ask all pharmacies nationwide to help campaign those in risk of the H1N1 virus infection to receive vaccinations before the free service provided by hospitals will expire at the end of March.
Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit stated that he has tasked his permanent secretary, MD Paijit Warachit, to seek cooperation from more than 10,000 pharmacies across the country to help screen and campaign people on H1N1 preventive measures, especially among at-risk groups. He said these at-risk groups should be more encouraged to receive vaccinations.
Five at-risk groups include medical staff, pregnant women of three months and over, people weighing over 100kg, the disabled, and those suffering from chronic diseases. Only 300,000 people in the groups have been vaccinated from the target set of two million people.
The minister said he would reconsider extending the availability of the free vaccination service for people in the at-risk group upon grave concern as 700,000 unvaccinated people did not have immunity and were at risk of fatality upon infection.
